Things You Can Do to Keep Your Tires in Good Shape

Posted on

Replacing your car tires can turn out to be a big expense, especially if they are not exactly small or normal tires. Since you would probably like to replace your tires as few times as possible, you will want to learn more about tire maintenance. The more you know about the things you can do to keep your tires in good shape for a long time the easier it will be to make them last. Here are a couple of things that you may want to remember:

1. Do Not Forget to Have Your Tires Rotated

One of the biggest things that people forget to do with their tires is to rotate them. A lot of people actually make the mistake of assuming that there really isn't a need for the rotation of the tires. However, that could not be further from the truth. You will actually want to have your tires rotated every five or six thousand miles or so. The reason for this is because this will help your tires wear out at the same time and evenly.

2. Keep an Eye on the Tire Pressure and Adjust as Needed

You will want to make sure that you are checking the air pressure in your tires at least once a week. It only takes a couple of minutes but it is vital that your automobile tires are inflated to the exact number stated in the owner's manual. Too much or too little pressure can not only cause damage to your tires, but it can also cause you to spend more money on fuel because your vehicle will not get as good mileage per gallon thanks to the improperly inflated tires.

3. Always Have the Brand New Tires Put on the Rear

If you only have the need for two tires, make sure that you are requesting that they go on the rear of the vehicle. Move the tires that were on the rear to the front of the vehicle. This will help keep those tires in great shape for as long as possible.

You can also consult someone at the tire shop or your regular mechanic to see what additional advice you can get for tire maintenance. The more you know how to take care of the tires for your vehicle, the longer they will last and the less money you will have to spend on new ones.
